Before, Ubuntu Installation on Nexus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread, first we talk about How to Install MeeGo 1.1 OS on Nexus S, which was successfully booted from a rootfs Image by an XDA Developer “Stroughtonsmith“. This Nokia and Intel OS MeeGo was Ported to Nexus S from a Rootfs Image on the Internal Memory, without even flashing the Smartphone.
The same Developer, again done another Hack, he recently Booted Ubuntu OS on the Nexus S using this same method and Kernel. While Steven got Ubuntu Working on Nexus S whith using an HD2 Ubuntu Image v3.0, and loaded it to the Internal Memory, without Flashing the Android Phone.
How to Install Ubuntu Linux on Google Nexus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread Phone
- Download Ubuntu for HTC HD2 version 0.3
- Take the rootfs.ext2 file and drag it to your Nexus S in a folder called Ubuntu.
- Use fastboot to boot the following image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8657343/bootUbuntu.img
- Using ADB, push this file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8657343/xorg.conf to etc/X11/xorg.conf and reboot Ubuntu. This will fix the screen output.
After Installing MeeGo OS on Nexus S, this Ubuntu Install on Nexus S is the second non-Android OS running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread based Nexus S. Don’t try this, if you are not an expert and this is the first time you are doing this, then please try an Easier Project before you work with this. Head over to this XDA Thread at the Developers Forum.
